Dr. (Mrs.) Irene Susana Egyir is a Ghanaian female Senior Lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, University of Ghana, Legon. She obtained her full education in Ghana graduating with a Ph.D in Agricultural Economics in 2004 from the University of Ghana; she is an awardee of Bromkamp Fellowship, Germany and NCSU, USA.
Since the start of lecturing, Irene has engaged in numerous professional development activities- workshops, conferences and courses- abroad to expand her world view while sharing the management and research expertise of African scholars.
Her current research interests include the empowerment of micro-entrepreneurs, women and deprived agricultural populations to be a part of the global political economy. She has twenty peer reviewed journal articles, and prepared about 22 research, conference papers and consultancy reports. She has contributed to the development of two books on post-harvest technology and manuals for the training of clients in managing micro credit. Her current research is on organic agriculture and insect based feed and fertilizer production (FiBL, Swizerland).
She is the founder and Project Coordinator of a development NGO, Multi Features and Capacity-enhancing Services (MFCS) Ltd. that links members of livelihoods groups formed by the organization, to research, extension, finance and cooperative institutions. She has served on several boards in the University and elsewhere.
She is currently on the Scientific Advisory Committee of Cultivate Africa, Kenya; the Governing Council, Volta Hall, University of Ghana; the National Advisory Council, The Hunger Project, Ghana; and Board of Directors, Creating Champions in Livestock and Agribusiness CCLEAr.
